I have known the Mispelt for some years now, first meeting them when they were a 3 piece, later adding the Simian Duchess Jen and now back to a 3 piece haha, hey if Take That can go from 4 to 3 and survive why not The Mispelt..?
I caught up with the guys live just after Christmas and was impressed not just with the fabric of the set, but also the attitude of the 3 of them, very upbeat and positive and ready to get out there and rock harder, very promising, but as is always the case, a naff studio recording can ruin all that, so hopefully this is not like that, here we go.
what a relief it’s not shite....haha, I didn’t think it would be, well I was banked it wouldn’t be, but you can never be sure of these things, the recording is meaty and mixed well, I like the overall sound, the guitar sound is better on this recording too, a thicker and darker sound, than before, vocals are better aswell, can hear a confidence and passion for the new songs in Dunks voice here, and as always Kev’s steady, heavy, pounding beats keep the train rolling, these are up there with some the best songs they have ever done, they aren’t the best songs they have done, but they certainly are the most complete and confidently delivered and as such certainly makes this recording a complete package.
I have heard these live and they fit well with the style that is Mispelt, no weird reinvention or switch to Jazz fusion Blues, just good quality Mispelt rock n roll.
My advice is get yourself a copy of this from the band and go see them live, they are back on the road big time this year already notching up more gigs so far this year than all of last year so, shouldn’t be difficult to get to see them.
Well done guys
